SARAH STRINGER-BOWSHER, M.A.Senior Historian EDUCATION
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCEMs. Stringer-Bowsher has seven years of combined graduate-level academic and professional experience as a historian. She earned her M.A. at Arizona State University (ASU) through public history course work in historic research methods, applied history, museum interpretation and analysis, and historic preservation. Her thesis was an original case study of Arizona’s first female Civil Engineer and sanitarian. Ms. Stringer-Bowsher’s professional duties have included land use histories, heritage projects, and resolving corporate inquiries for a water and power company in Arizona; archival research in small and large repositories; and preparing a variety of reports for audiences in both private and government sectors. Each deliverable required the creation or implementation of a project design, collecting pertinent primary and secondary sources, and analyzing and synthesizing the information into a client-appropriate product. Ms. Stringer-Bowsher investigates possible historic resources by conducting research in large and small repositories in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Washington, D.C. As Senior Historian, Ms. Stringer-Bowsher creates historical contexts as the foundation for evaluating buildings, structures, objects, and sites to the California Register of Historic Resources (CRHR) and the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in compliance with Section 106, Section 110, and CEQA. Project experiences include preparing: numerous local, state, regional, and national historic contexts; land use histories; oral histories; administrative and construction histories of large water works projects; recommendations for site interpretation based on archival evidence; and HABS/HAER level documentation for Federal agencies, local organizations, and private companies. Ms. Stringer-Bowsher’s research efforts have resolved administrative inquiries and contributed to management decisions for cultural resources and contemporary operations. She answers historic questions regarding homesteads, mining, water and irrigation works, transportation (roads and bridges), land use, and military installations (World War II and Cold War). Ms. Stringer-Bowsher applies her knowledge of history and professional experiences to varied cultural resources and research projects for ASM Affiliates’ clients in California, Nevada, and Arizona. She maintains research interests in social history, irrigation projects, and technological history. |
