PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Russ Tanner has more than 30 years of experience in conducting
cultural resource studies throughout the western United States. He
received his Master’s
degree in American Studies, a multidisciplinary field that combines
history, literature, and cultural studies, from the University of
Wyoming in 1995. Mr. Tanner has worked in the cultural resources
field since 1976. He is a former archaeologist and historian for the
U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming, and is the Principal of
Kyak Marook Heritage Research, a cultural resources management firm
specializing in archaeological, historical, and anthropological
studies and Section 106 compliance.
Mr. Tanner served as Staff Archaeologist and Resource Area
Archaeologist for the Bureau of Land Management, Wyoming, from
1986-2001 and from 2005-2006. He has prepared historic context
studies and served as technical lead for numerous cultural resource
projects requiring compliance with Section 106 of the National
Historic Preservation Act. Mr. Tanner also served as the
contracting officer's technical representative on numerous contracts
for the Bureau of Land Management.
