DON LAYLANDER, M.A.Senior Archaeologist EDUCATION
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Don Laylander has 29 years of
professional archaeological experience, during which he has
been responsible for conducting numerous archaeological
surveys, test excavations, and data recovery excavations, as
well as overseeing and preparing documents for compliance
with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act
and the California Environmental Quality Act.
He worked for 16 years as an archaeologist with the California Department of Transportation, based successively in San Diego, Bishop, Fresno, and Sacramento. He also performed archaeological work for several years with the U.S. Forest Service, with private consulting companies in southern California, and for San Diego State University in Belize, Central America. He joined the staff of ASM Affiliates in 2001, and has served as a senior archaeologist on projects for various public agencies and private clients throughout southern California.
Mr. Laylander has addressed
the problem of reconstructing the human
prehistory of Alta and Baja California
through diverse research strategies, making
use of archaeological, ethnographic, and
linguistic evidence. He has been a frequent
participant in regional and international
conferences and has published monographs and
articles in a range of professional
journals.
